Tajik students learn about managing climate risk

The Centre for Climate Change and Disaster Reduction in partnership with Khorog State University, Youth for Mountain Development and the State Committee for Emergency Situations of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast are organizing a summer school for 15 students in Khorog City, Tajikistan, from 30 July to 3 August 2014. Participants are currently studying Climate Risk Management at Khorog State University.

The sessions, conducted in Tajik, will include: General Concept of Climate Risk Management, Methods and Tools for Integrated Climate Risk Assessment and Adaptation Strategies in Integrated Climate Risk Management.Participants will also learn about the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Mountain Partnership and its partners and activities, the Sustainable Development Goals, Application of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and mapping, Glaciers of Pamirs and climate change, World Conservation Approaches and Technologies (WOCAT).

The course work will be complemented by field trips to demonstrate some adaptations practices applied by the communities in the region, Tajikistan’s most remote mountainous area. Read more
