Information centre highlighting mountains globally

07.11.2014

To aid in bringing greater attention to the importance of the worlds’ mountain regions, UK-based Mountain Partnership member, Active Remedy Ltd created and launched a new, interactive website on 18 October 2014. This is a centre of information dedicated to the safeguarding of the global water cycle and the ecosystems that it is utterly dependent upon to function effectively.

Active Remedy Ltd is very concerned that there is not enough awareness of the global importance of mountain regions. Therefore, its new website is designed to bring greater clarity, highlight significant scientific research, UN resolutions and government policies and to transform the general perception of mountains from distant beauties to essential life support systems for all.

Because mountain ecosystems are among the most important of all the ecosystems for the functioning of the global water cycle, an entire section has been dedicated to them. As you will see, they are also featured in every section of the site as mountains are of immense importance to the water security of the whole world.

“There is a complex interrelationship existing between mountains and lowlands in terms of freshwater quantity and quality. They represent an essential component of the global life-support system and are essential to the survival of the global ecosystem.” (UN ECOSOC, 1997, E/1998/68)

The site features a Mountain Partnership video, referring to the importance of ecosystems for fresh water and more up to date news items regarding the Mountain Partnership and its important work over will be added in the coming weeks.

We hope that this will bring greater attention to and aid the cause of Mountain Partnership. Being a member of Mountain Partnership is important to us and we are very interested in working with our Mountain Partnership colleagues. Through our website we are interested in helping to highlight any issues that any of you may feel to be relevant. We welcome all feedback and suggestions.

This is one of the ways that we at Active Remedy Ltd can honour our obligations of sharing information and working in a supportive relationship with other members, in a common cause for mountains and their communities.

We wish you all the best and hope this information centre can aid you in your important work.
