Mountain Research and Development issue online

16.03.2015

In 2015, with Future Earth and the Sustainable Development Goal activities, sustainability ranks high on the research and development agendas. Both international efforts are reflected in the orientation of Volume 35, No 1, of Mountain Research and Development (MRD), which is now available online. Papers in this Open Issue explore how Indian farmers’ engagement in a pro-poor value chain can improve their benefits; how Peruvian periurban farmers’ preferences regarding urbanization can be captured; how European intergenerational practices can help in protected area management; and how a low-cost methodology to create digital elevation models can help remote Andean mountain areas. Further papers analyse French and Italian mountain family farms’ adaptation to socioeconomic dynamics and changing national agricultural and mountain policies; the response of alpine forest communities to climate variability in Nepal; and the impact of N and P fertilizer on degraded grasslands in Tibet.
