Mobilization for climate in Europe

05.08.2015

In the scope of the international summit on climate change in Paris, France, in December 2015 (referred to as COP21), a group of mountaineers launched 'Summit(s) for climate', a set of actions structured around a crossing of the Écrins Range, in France, with the aim to draw inspiration to face the challenges of climate change in the mountain. This programme was supported by the Belgian and French associations of Mountain Wilderness.

The main action, a 21-day crossing of Écrins Range, along the summits (29 June - 19 July 2015), saw the participation of amateurs and professional mountaineers (including François Labande, Honorary President of Mountain Wilderness France). The simultaneous ascent of various summits, by several roped parties, during the weekend of 11-12 July, is intended to mark the international dimension of the issue.

The making of a testimonial film bearing the message of the collective will be edited in the second half of 2015. The organization of a photo competition and a web page of testimonials are also planned.
