Rocco Hunt to sound the alarm for the earth

15.03.2016

Italian rapper from the Campania Region, Rocco Hunt, will take centre stage with a free concert, organized by Earth Day Italia, at Villa Borghese in Rome, Italy for Earth Day on 22 April. Following his success at the Sanremo Italian Music Festival, where he amazed critics and audiences with the song, “Wake up”, Hunt decided to dedicate a stop on his tour to the planet.

On the 46th celebration of Earth Day, Hunt will sound the alarm in Rome to remind the young, and less young, of the importance to take action for the only home we have. “The link with my homeland,” said the singer, “has been important to my musical inspiration and growth. As I say in Wake Up, 'I never forget my roots because this land says who we are'. My land is suffering, the ignorance sown over the years with waste, poisons and toxic fumes and the more time passes, the more ugly surprises are revealed. I hope that my generation can change the way of thinking, the way we act. Also because we are running out of time, people are getting sick and our children's future could be compromised. Wake Up!"

"The appearance of Rocco Hunt on our stage has a very symbolic value”, said Pierluigi Sassi, President of Earth Day Italia. “This young and surprising artist represents the new generation who becomes aware of the errors made by their parents and who personally commits to avoid making more. Rocco comes from Campania,” continued Sassi, “one of the Italian regions forced to pay a high price for the reckless and criminal exploitation of the earth. The lyrics of his songs, along with his choice to interpret the ‘concert for the earth’ in a completely new way, are a strong response to that destruction and to all the damage caused worldwide".

With his ‘concert for the earth’, Hunt continues the legacy of many artists of the past on the stage of Earth Day Italia. Patty Smith, Ben Harper, Khaled, Anguun, DeeDee Bridgewater, Vinicio Capossela, Subsonica, Carmen Consoli, Arisa, Dolcenera and many others, in addition to the great Pino Daniele, whose sounds are often remembered by Hunt’s vocal nuances.

And while the awareness of a billion people will be raised across the planet by the Earth Day Network through thousands of initiatives on 22 April, such as that of Rome, at the United Nations Headquarters, Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon will call 195 governments to ratify the historic ‘climate agreement’ reached in Paris, France last December. Earth Day 2016 will be an historic date that marks the beginning of an arduous journey towards achieving sustainability of the planet.
