Newsletter about mountains in Argentina

18.08.2016

The National Mountain Committee of Argentina has issued the 12th edition of its newsletter, which outlines progress made on the Telefood project. Two aspects of the project came to an end in April and in July 2016, respectively. The first was aimed at making students’ diets more healthy at the Agua de las Avispas school while also increasing their knowledge of nutrition while the latter focused on improving the diets and livelihoods of indigenous farming families in the Humahuaca Department of the Jujuy Province.

The newsletter also features a story about the return of 4 150 cultural goods to Peru as well as a series of striking photographs that depict mountain environments.

Mountains are a defining characteristic of much of Argentina’s territory and ecosystems. Beyond offering magnificent landscapes, they are an intrinsic part of the Andean nation’s history, uniqueness and culture.

The recognition of the importance of mountains in national planning and vision is a subject that Argentina is working on. That is why the Committee on Mountains strives to prioritize poverty reduction, sustainable management of natural resources and sustainable production based on planning and environmental planning in the mountains in the country and the region.
