Calling for protection of the Ghats mountains19.08.2016
The National Conference on Conservation of Eastern Ghats was held on 16-17 April 2016. It consisted of a series of programmes to save fragile ecosystems, resources and indigenous groups in the Eastern Ghats. The conference was organized by the Greens’ Alliance for Conservation of Eastern Ghats, an initiative of the Council for Green Revolution, an environmental organization in Hyderabad, India, and the Post Graduate Department of Zoology at Utkal University in Bhubaneshwar. After two days of presentations and deliberations by university scholars and institutions, conference participants wrote the declaration, appealing to the central government and policymakers to create a National Trusteeship Council (NTC). This council would facilitate the protection of ecosystems like forests, mountains, rivers, coastline, grasslands and wilderness areas to ensure restoration of damaged ecosystems, to pass on the same to the future generations. Along with the declaration from the conference, the Council for Green Revolution shared a booklet containing information on five years of its activities and accomplishments as an environmental organization in Hyderabad, India.
