Rio+20: Including regional mountain arrangements in paragraph 94

The Mountain Partnership wishes to thank its Friends and Members. Your dedication to sustainable mountain development has strengthened the position of mountains in the Zero Draft of the "Outcome Document". The Mountain Partnership Secretariat encourages negotiators to give recognition to regional mountain arrangements and organizations in the “Zero Draft”. In order to ensure that regional mountain arrangements are included in paragraph 94, a sample text is suggested as follows: “In this respect we invite States to strengthen cooperative action by establishing new or strengthening existing regional Agreements or arrangements for sustainable mountain development and we encourage existing mountain-specific regional Multilateral Environmental Agreements to share their experiences with other regions.” The second round of informal-informal negotiations on the Outcome Document is ongoing and will last until 4 May 2012.
