Andean regional project to strengthen the sustainable mountain development

The Project "Strengthening participative management for sustainable development of the Andes" aims to strengthen and to extend the institutional framework of mountain within Andean region, improving participative management of resources in the Andes and sharing the knowledge about several issues that cover them. This project aims to create a regional diagnosis of the mountains situation validated by the countries, with emphasis on training, and intends to capitalize many regional integration efforts and the valuable experiences that take place in the Andean region.

Six Andean countries are involved: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, through the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Environment and/or ministries of Agriculture, which manages the signing of agreements for the implementation and strengthening of the national groups of work in mountain areas also known as the Mountain Committees, which are groups formed by governmental and nongovernmental organizations.

The Project has one year working in the region and a second year in progress. It is led by FAO under the framework of the Mountain Partnership and is currently supported by CONDESAN e Infoandina.  New regional support is expected.
