Altai members meet Central Asia members

Mountain Partnership members from Altai Republic, Russian Federation, visited the University of Central Asia (UCA) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Chagat Almashev, (1st from the right on the photo), Director of Foundation for Sustainable Development of Altay (FSDA), accompanied by the Altanian prominent ‘kaichi’ (throat singer)  Alexei (1st from the left on photo), met with the Mountain Partnership decentralized Hub for Central Asia (MPCA) staff, as well as with the Mountain Societies Research Centre staff at the UCA, hosting institution of Mountain Partnership. They told about the activities of the FSDA and discussed the ways of cooperation with other regional MP members through the MPCA hub. In particular, they have expressed their interest in participating in the CAMP Forum in Tajikistan in October, 2012, at the ministerial level: the Minister for Economics of Altai Republic who is in charge of the mountain issues. In present Altay Republic is in the process of adopting the Mountain legislation integrating mountain specificities into the development process. With the Moscow State University, the Altai Republic has been working on assessment of mountain specificities and their impacts on socio-economic development of the region. The FSDA works closely with the Institute of Sustainable Development under the Public Chamber of Russian Parliament. They have much to share with Central Asia and are eager to learn more from Central Asia through the MP platform.
