Loss of glaciers in Peru increased by up to 35 percent

The loss of glaciers in Peru has increased from 22 to 27% percentand in some cases up to 35 percent, according to the Minister of Environment of Peru, Manuel Pulgar – Vidal. He explained that the Peruvian government is working to improve the ability to monitor how deglaciation progresses. This situation is of great relevence for Peru, as the country has the largest number of tropical glaciers in the world. Loss of glaciers will be one of the main issues addressed in InterCLIMA 2012, a three-day business meeting to analyze the problems of climate change and its relation to disaster risk management. The Minister of Environment of Peru, Manuel Pulgar-Vidal also announced that the ministry is working to achieve the goal of "zero" in deforestation by 2021.
