Mountains of opportunities in new European policy

11.01.2015

Euromontana, a European multi-sectoral association for cooperation and development of mountain areas, has issued the third edition of its newsletter “A New CAP: Mountains of Opportunities,” summarizing the recently concluded European mountain convention held in Bilbao, Spain, from 22 to 24 October 2014.

The newsletter features the four study visits conducted during the 11th convention titled, “Quality from the Mountains – Prosperity for People and Territories,”  in which Euromontana members explored opportunities for developing and promoting mountain products under the new Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) of the EU.

Six thematic workshops that were held during the Bilbao convention on Innovation, Territorial Approach, Socio-economic Impact, Environment & Heritage, Marketing Strategies, Tools for Quality are reviewed. The reviews are complemented by links to a detailed factsheet as well as conclusion document that provides both rationale and recommendations for thematic focus under the new agricultural policy.

The newsletter also looks forward - to three action plans resulting from the convention to improve networking, cooperation and developing synergies among key mountain supply chain actors as well as on local strategies to develop markets for mountain products. Key conclusions of the three-day regional convention make up the last section of the newsletter with links to outcome documents and member presentations.

“A New CAP newsletter” is part of the multilingual information campaign about the new policy and its implementation in mountain areas funded with support from the European Commission.
