Winners of online mountain photo contest

The winners of the first international online digital photography contest, “We Love Mountains,” held to mark International Mountain Day have been announced.

The top three pictures in two categories - mountain peoples and family farming - and the top 25 finalists overall were selected. Prizes include a collection of publications by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and special We Love Mountains t-shirts.

The contest helped raise public awareness about the importance of mountains to sustainable development and build alliances to bring positive changes to mountain peoples and environments.

Organized by the Municipality of Denia, Spain, with support from the Mountain Partnership Secretariat and FAO, the contest provided an opportunity for  mountain enthusiasts from around the world to share their passion for mountains on social media. The pictures were posted on Instagram from 1 to 15 December 2014, indicated by the hashtag #WeLoveMountains.
