Call for submissions for the UNSG report

30.03.2015

Mountain Partnership member governments and organizations are invited to send the Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) summaries of the most important results of their mountain development activities since July 2013 for the United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) Report on Sustainable Mountain Development.

Every two years, the MPS and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, in collaboration with governments, other UN agencies and non-government organizations (NGOs), prepare the information for the United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) Report on Sustainable Mountain Development. The report is then presented under the sustainable development agenda item at the new session of the United Nations General Assembly and becomes a resolution.

The report describes the status and progress made in promoting sustainable mountain development at the national and international levels. Focusing on geographic regions and various themes, it provides an overall analysis of the challenges and includes recommendations on how to more effectively achieve sustainable development in mountain regions. The Report has been compiled since 2001 by FAO as task manager for chapter 13 of Agenda 21.

This reporting process provides MP members with a significant opportunity to raise awareness of their work, gain visibility at the international level and contribute to drafting an official document of the UN Secretariat.

Since the UNSG report provides selected examples and highlights of action, the Secretariat cannot guarantee that all the submissions will be reproduced in full or included in the final report. Submissions should not be exceed 200 words, pertain to the 2013-2015 reporting period and be sent to [email protected] by 13 April 2015.
