Newsletter for West Africa mountains

15.06.2016

The Platform of Civil Society Organization for the Safeguard of Mountains (PSM) began a newsletter for green actors in seven countries of West Africa. PSM is a platform for the stability of mountains and the wellbeing of mountain communities in West Africa and includes some Mountain Partnership members.

With the release of its first newsletter, the West African platform shares information about the conservation of mountain ecosystems and biodiversity and the promotion of mountain communities’ wellbeing. The newsletter, available in English and French, is an opportunity for PSM to help others discover West Africa through its mountains and hills in the interest of furthering PSM’s goals.

The news covers the region’s efforts to overcome the ecological, social and economic challenges in the mountains, in general, and the Togo-Akwapim-Atacora highlands, in particular. The newsletter begins with details on the development of mountain ecosystems in Togo and Ghana, including an article on mountain ecosystems under crucial threats in a plateau region of Togo, and finishes with details on Ghanaian civil society organizations that support the integrated management of the Togo-Ghana highlands.

The PSM website features events in the upcoming months in the region as well as details about the individual organizations involved in the platform. The upcoming events include the celebration of International Mountain Day on 11 December and the first West African Mountain Forum on 5 October 2017. The website also includes details on PSM’s internship programme and how to apply.

PSM is a channel to promote food sovereignty and green economy in the Togo, Ghana and Benin highlands, seeks to spearhead biodiversity conservation, promotes kinship among mountain communities, encourages socio-economic integration in West Africa and strives to maintain a moderate climate in West Africa.

Any feedback or suggestions regarding the newsletter are invited for future editions, and will connect the various organizations and networks with similar objectives all over the world.
