Online digest on mountain climate change

23.01.2017

The 50th issue of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development’s (ICIMOD) thematic digest on mountain climate change is now available online. Prepared for members of the Mountain Forum, Mountain Partnership and other regional and global networks, this issue includes ICIMOD Regional Member Countries’ news, global news and event announcements.

The thematic digest opens with a story about President Bidhya Devi Bhandari announcing Nepal’s desire to play a proactive role in protecting its biodiversity and repelling the negative impacts of climate change. It continues with the findings of a recent study conducted by the International Organization of Migration that says climate change and natural hazards are influencing migration flows in South Asian countries. In the section on global news, articles discuss the potential impacts of collective inaction on climate change, the possible negative effects of forest thinning to reduce drought, fire and insects on natural forest climate adaptation and more. Last, information about two upcoming international conferences on climate change is available in the event section.

The Asia Pacific Mountain Network project of ICIMOD prepares periodic digests on various themes of international importance based on Sustainable Mountain Development. Along with some special issues on internationally important events like youth, black carbon, gender and governance, the periodic themes include biodiversity and forests, mountain livelihood and technology, mountain climate change of international importance, and water and hazards. For inclusion of any relevant events, news, opportunities or related publications in the digests, please contact [email protected].
