Call for applications: IPROMO 2022, to be held in person

09.03.2022

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat is pleased to announce the call for applications for the fifteenth IPROMO summer school. The annual training programme on sustainable mountain development is jointly organized by the Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the University of Turin, Italy, and the University of Tuscia, Italy, with the high patronage of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This year, the theme is “Sustainable management of mountain areas”, and the course will be held in person for the first time in two years.

The sustainable management of mountain areas is crucial to protect mountain ecosystems and build the resilience of communities. This has been recently confirmed by the decision of the United Nations General Assembly to declare 2022 as the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development (IYM2022), at the proposal of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. The resolution was supported by 94 governments: a clear recognition of the global relevance of mountains and the services they provide to the planet.

In consideration of the IYM2022 and the fifteenth anniversary of IPROMO, the course will deal with sustainable mountain development at large rather than focusing on one theme.

The 2022 IPROMO summer school will run from 27 June to 11 July with two weeks of full immersion learning. It will include lectures, practical work and excursions. The course will be held in Ormea (northwest Italy) and Pieve Tesino (northeast Italy) and will be conducted in English. The instructors will include a mix of university professors, officers from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and colleagues from regional or international organizations dealing with sustainable mountain development.

The course will accept approximately 30 participants, who will be selected among officers, development experts and technicians from countries and organizations that are members of the Mountain Partnership.

Excellent knowledge of English, a university degree (preferably in a technical area such as agriculture, forestry, biology, geology or geography) and relevant work experience are prerequisites. Participants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The total cost of the course (including full board, accommodation, taxes, teaching equipment and internal transfers but excluding travel costs to Italy) is EUR 3000. Please note that a few scholarships are available for participants from developing countries.

Those who are interested in participating can register online here.

The deadline to apply is 30 March 2022. Applicants can expect to receive a reply by end of April 2022.
