Call for inputs, UNSG report on sustainable mountain development

29.03.2022

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) is currently compiling inputs for the 2022 United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG) report on sustainable mountain development.

Every three years, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as the mandated lead UN agency on mountains together with the Mountain Partnership Secretariat is tasked to prepare the UNSG report on sustainable mountain development, in collaboration with governments, relevant agencies of the UN system and NGOs. The 2022 report will be presented at the seventy-seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly as requested by the latest UNGA resolution (A/RES/74/227).

The document will describe the status and progress made in promoting sustainable mountain development at the national and international levels, since the previous UNSG report in 2019 (A/74/209).

The 2022 report will highlight specific thematic areas of focus and provide an overview of the results, impacts and changes achieved through action at national, regional and global level as well as provide recommendations.

This UNSG report is a significant opportunity to raise awareness of sustainable mountain development activities at global and local level as well as an opportunity to propose recommendations for the way forward. When drafting your contribution, please make reference to the outline for the next report, which has been prepared by FAO and approved by UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, as well as to the previous UNSG report

Submissions should have a focus on actions and outcomes and less on events held. The reporting period is from July 2019 to April 2022. Due to a strict limit of the report’s overall length, your total contribution should not exceed 150 words and may be sent to [email protected] by 22 April 2022.
