31.03.2022

Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba inaugurated the Regional Policy Dialogue on Sustainable Mountain Solutions on 23 March 2022. The two-day event was organized by the Ministry of Forests and Environment of Nepal in Kathmandu as part of the celebrations of the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development 2022.

A total of 200 representatives from 13 countries participated in the conference. Keynote speakers included scientists, policy-makers and mountain stakeholders from Nepal and around the world. Remarks were given by Roberto Natali, Chair of the Mountain Partnership Steering Committee, as well as by many other Mountain Partnership members.

“The International year of Sustainable Mountain Development 2022 is a chance to join forces to catalyse action and investments for mountain communities and ecosystems in the spirit of the 2030 Agenda,” said Roberto Natali.

Working papers were presented on mountain economies, biodiversity and ecosystems, culture, women, and highland-lowland connections. Participants discussed the issues faced by Nepal’s mountain areas to formulate a regional policy on the protection and promotion of mountain ecosystems.

The Ministry of Forests and Environment of Nepal will organize various programmes throughout 2022 to promote the importance of mountain ecosystems in celebration of the International Year.
