Summer school on study of mountain soils

25.11.2015

The Italian Society of Soil Science (SISS) is organizing a joint international summer school for Phd students and young researchers on studying soil processes in mountain ecosystems to be held at the Alpine Study Center in Pieve Tesino, Italy from 26 June to 30 June 2016.

The four-day school entitled “Advanced methods and new integrated approaches to study soil processes in mountain ecosystems” is jointly organized under the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action “Enhancing the Resilience Capacity of Sensitive Mountain Forest Ecosystems under Environmental Change” (SENSFOR). The summer school is aimed at Phd students and researchers interested in innovative methods to study mountain soil properties and processes through integrated approaches.

The curriculum will focus on understanding fundamental soil processes through integration of physical, chemical, biological, and mineralogical properties at multiple scales ranging from global to atomic level. In addition to lectures on topics such as soil forming factors and soil analysis, the school will include a field trip to Passo Brocon to demonstrate multifunctional use of high mountain environment (food and wood production, landscape and environment resources).

Interested applicants can send application form - available at the SENSFOR website - to  [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] by 15 February 2016. 15 SENSFOR COST Action grantsare available for the applicants.
