New solar panels for remote Tajik schools

In 2015, environmental organization Little Earth installed two more solar photovoltaic systems in schools in the Bartang valley area of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, Tajikistan. This activity was implemented within the project "Clean Energy" supported by the Norwegian Society for Conservation of Nature.
Most of the villages in the upper part of the Bartang River valley do not have access to the grid. This negatively affects the educational process and the overall activities of educational institutions. In the absence of electricity, students have to work in dark classrooms without light, and computers that are available to schools cannot be used.
Two schools were selected for the installation of solar panels - school №34 in the Kudara village and school №35 in Ruhch village - provided solar systems have capacity of 1 kW each. Installation made it possible for the schools to run computer class equipment, which is expected to improve their education and increase their advancement. Solar panels generate enough electricity to power four desktop computers and one laser printer in each of the above-mentioned schools.
The installed equipment has one-year guarantee from the supplier company. Moreover, Little Earth has signed an agreement with the school administrations obliging them to use solar panels in proper manner and to repair the equipment in case of damage not covered by the warranty. Representatives of schools also received an operational manual in Russian and Tajik languages.
Next spring Little Earth plans to conduct a monitoring of the installed solar systems and collect feedback from the schools’ administrations.
