Short film captures hope in Tajik mountains

18.02.2016

The environmental organization, Little Earth, with the support of the Norwegian Society for Nature Conservation, has produced a small documentary about life in the remote mountain villages of the Bartang River valley in the Pamir Mountains. The short film, "Bartang – the Valley of Hopes", reveals the everyday reality for the inhabitants of the Bartang Valley – the harsh natural conditions of the highlands, challenging lifestyle, limited resources, remoteness from major cities and the proximity to the dangerous Sarez Lake.

For many years, the locals have been living in their native land in harmony with nature, but misallocation of resources and active forests and bushes cuttings for firewood led to the destruction of fragile ecosystems and worsened the already difficult situation of the mountain villages.

For more than seven years, Little Earth has been promoting the mobilization of local communities and emphasizing new resource-efficient technologies. It helps lighten daily work and improve the quality of life of the people. Working together with the communities from the valley, Little Earth does not only strive to ensure environmental sustainability, but also to promote the communities’ development as a whole.

Watch the documentary to see pictures of unique beauty from the Bartang Valley; hear the interviews with the local people and meet the bright examples of "green" technologies.

Little Earth is interested to continue to expand its work with mountain communities of Tajikistan in the field of clean energy and resources efficiency. If you are interested in working with Little Earth, you may contact them at:
