ICT for Mountain Development Award 2016

06.06.2016

On World Environment Day, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) launched the ICT for Mountain Development Award for the third consecutive year. The award recognizes innovations, use and applications of Information and Communications Technology for Development (ICTD) that help to promote mountain development and environmental conservation.

ICT for Development is increasingly being used across the world, including in some parts of the Hindu Kush Himalayan region (HKH). However, we do not yet have a comprehensive picture of its use, application and proliferation in the mountain environment context. ICIMOD hopes that through this annual ICT for Mountain Development Award, more will be learned about ICT usage and application - where, how and what is being done in the region to benefit mountain communities.

All forms of ICT (mobile, radio, Internet, digital content, blogs, robotics, multimedia, etc.) relevant to mountain development and environmental conservation are eligible for submission. In other words, the basic criteria is that the ICT for Development initiative should be one that has been applied in the HKH region, has a clear focus on mountain development or mountain environment, and has made an impact on the ground.

The award(s) will be announced on the occasion of International Mountain Day (IMD), 11 December 2016. Winners will receive prizes along with a certificate of recognition.

Deadline: Wednesday, 30 November 2016.
