The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) is the national research council in the Netherlands and has a budget of 625 million euros per year. NWO promotes quality and innovation in science. NWO's statutory duties are: - to advance the quality of scientific research and initiate and encourage new research developments, - to allocate research funding; - to facilitate the transfer of knowledge from research initiated and encouraged by NWO for the benefit of society, - to focus on university research and to coordinate scientific research strategy where necessary.
