Students participate in FAO´s nutritional component activities in Zambézia Province

31 May, Zambézia- Within the component that integrates Nutrition Education and Communication for Social Change and Behaviour Integrating Home Gardens from the Millenium Development Goals MDG1c programme, FAO received students from Quelimane Institute of Health Sciences, who joined the FAO team, to learn about their area.

During the internship, the nutrition students attended to the activities developed by this FAO component and made several field visits to the communities where the programme is being carried out in the localities of Malua, Caiaia, Murovoro, Machilone and Inago in Zambézia province.

The students also had the opportunity to attend to lectures on Nutrition Education and behaviour change; Nutrition Education sessions with the promoters with the Care Mothers and from the Care Mothers for the beneficiaries as well as the establishment and management of Home Gardens.

For Fernando Ribeiro, one of the trainees, the internship was very productive. "We had the opportunity to work in FAO in the area of ​​nutrition and food security and we also visited communities in Ecole, Mohiua, Mutala, Nauela localities.

For the student it was interesting to see how the Care Mothers teach the other beneficiary mothers the utility of each food and how to use them through the manuals produced by FAO.

The students also had sessions on Home Gardens and for Fernando it was amazing to see the varieties of seeds that can be used when we were to see the component of home gardens," said the student.
