On August 29, a seminar was held in Maputo about the Promotion of Research, Technology and Innovation in the Agricultural, Food and Forestry Sectors, organized by INOVISA and the Ministry of Science and Technology Higher Education and Professional Technician with the support of FAO and the Portuguese Embassy.

The main objective of the event was to discuss models for the implementation of new projects and initiatives on technologies, innovation and entrepreneurship among the various actors involved in agriculture, food and forestry in the country.

FAO Representative Castro Camarada said that “the initiative related to the promotion of technology transfer and information sharing networks, in addition to strengthening the link between the scientific, academic and business environment, has moved on to a more advanced stage than the most concrete interventions for the country”.

Camarada also said that “in the forestry sector, FAO will also initiate a programme that consists of providing technical assistance to areas such as the oversight of information systems that will make use of advanced technological solutions as part of a forest investment program supported by World Bank”.

During his speech, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, stressed that "the promotion of inter-sectoral collaboration in research is one of the priorities of the government and that, from 2015 to the present, the National Fund (institution under the supervision of the Minister), directed about 40% of the research investments for agriculture, which is the largest investment of all eligible areas".
