IAEA/FAO Joint Division to Collaborate with FAO Representation in Namibia

The Food and Environmental Protection Section of the Joint Programme and its associated Food and Environmental Protection Laboratory of the FAO/IAEA Agricultural and Biotechnology Laboratory in Seibersdorf provide assistance and support to countries in their efforts to ensure the safety and quality of food and agricultural commodities and food security while at the same time facilitating international trade.

On Tuesday 13th October 2015, staff of the Joint FAO/IAEA Division, Mr. Johannes Solomon Corley in company of Mr. Lucas Iipumbu, Head of Section – Toxicology and Residue Analysis Central Veterinary Laboratory (CVL), Ministry of Agriculture Water and Forestry in Windhoek Namibia, paid a courtesy call to the FAO Representative to Namibia Dr Babagana Ahmadu. They identified among others, support to the implementation of the new Namibian Food Safety Policy as a possible area of collaboration within the FAO Namibia Country Programme framework.

The IAEA staff agreed with his FAO counterpart for further exploration of joint activities that would focus on strengthening Namibia’s capacity for the implementation of international standards on irradiation and capacity building in the control of food and environmental hazards as well as food traceability and authenticity.
