20/10/2015

Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Namibia National Farmers Union (NNFU).  The MoU signed is designed to provide a framework for co-operation between FAO and NNFU with the overall goal of promoting technical cooperation, policy development, capacity building and partnership in areas related to mutual interest of the two organizations.

“NNFU and FAO recognize each other as agriculture and development-oriented organizations operating in Namibia in pursuit of national and international goals, within the limit of each organization's mandate, financial, material and human resources.  The Memorandum of Understanding servers as a working document between the two organizations to strengthen their relationship and the impact of their development interventions in Namibia.”  Said Babagana Ahmadu FAO Representative.

Speaking at the signing ceremony the NNFU President, Tobias Emvula, highlighted the importance of the longstanding working relationship and partnership that the two organizations felt appropriate to formalize the relationship through a MoU for future effective and efficient working relationship.

“One of the very first areas of collaboration is the implementation of the Compressive Conservation Agricultural program which was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forest.  NNFU has been identified as a key stakeholder for driving this important program as a means to mitigate climate change in the NCA regions of Namibia”.  He added.
