FAO Provides Laptop Computers to Allow Partners to Implement Projects Remotely
Tunis: In the current special situation of COVID-19, telework has become a necessity in order to ensure continuity, from a distance, in the implementation of FAO projects in Tunisia. Mr. Philippe Ankers, Coordinator of FAO in North Africa and Representative in Tunisia, delivered this first batch of equipment, in the presence of Mr. M. Imed Jaouadi, Deputy Director of Phytosanitary Control at the Ministry of Agriculture Water Resources and Fisheries.
These laptops will be dedicated to improved connections and networking of those involved in the implementation of the activities of two projects. Firstly, some high performance computers will be made available to the Support Project for the General Census of Agriculture (RGA) and the Completion of the National Forest, Rangeland and Olive Grove inventory (IFPON). This project, funded by the World Bank, is part of a larger project called Integrated Landscape Management in the Least Developed Regions in the Northwest and Centerwest of Tunisia (PGIP) which aims to improve economic opportunities in regions where the development indices are among the lowest in the country by adopting sustainable management of natural, agricultural and sylva-pastoral resources.
The second project affected is the Support for Official Control Services for Animal and Plant Products in Tunisia. Funded by the European Union, this project aims to support phytosanitary surveillance programs, monitoring and control of pesticides and quantitative risk assessment. This project involves providing support for complex identification and registration programs for primary production units and for the accreditation of supporting laboratories. It also provides technical assistance, the development of studies and training. These latter activities require the acquisition of equipment necessary to achieve the objectives sought by these programs and guarantee continuity and progress in the implementation of these projects in the complex global phase.
