EGM on Inclusive and resilient recovery from COVID-19 for sustainable livelihoods, well-being and dignity for all

Hybrid Event, 29/07/2021 - 03/08/2021

The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations has that the priority theme for the 60th session of the Commission for Social Development, which will take place in February 2022, shall be “Inclusive and resilient recovery from COVID-19 for sustainable livelihoods, well-being, and dignity for all: eradicating poverty and hunger in all its forms and dimensions to achieve the 2030 Agenda”.

To this end, an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) is convened for 29-30 July and 2-3 August, in preparation for the 60th session of the Commission, which is expected to adopt a resolution on the priority theme.

The EGM will provide inputs to the report of the Secretary-General on the priority theme, which shall offer an analytical backdrop to the Commission’s deliberations. The meeting will also contribute to the work of the Commission by providing concrete, evidence-based recommendations on policies for an inclusive and resilient recovery from COVID-19, with a particular focus on poverty and hunger eradication to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

FAO Chief Economist, Maximo Torero, will present and provide an opening statement at the meeting. The FAO Director of the Inclusive Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division, Benjamin Davis, alongside different FAO experts, will also contribute in different sessions of the EGM.
