FAO at the 53rd Session of the UN Statistical Commission

The UN Statistical Commission is the highest body of the global statistical system, bringing together the Chief Statisticians from Member States from around the world. It is the highest decision making body for international statistical activities, responsible for setting of statistical standards and the development of concepts and methods, including their implementation at the national and international level.
The Statistical Commission oversees the work of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), and is a Functional Commission of the UN Economic and Social Council.
The 53rd Session of the UN Statistical Commission (UN53SC) will discuss, among others, reports of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators, and of the High Level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as a report of the Working Group on Data Stewardship.
Items for discussion and decision, with FAO participation, will include data and indicators for the 2030 Agenda; working methods of the Statistical Commission; regional statistical development; population and housing censuses; gender statistics; environmental-economic accounting; climate change statistics; Network of Economic Statisticians; ICT statistics; International Comparison Programme; informal economy statistics; Big Data; international statistical classifications; Open Data; integration of statistical and geospatial information; and coordination of statistical programmes.
FAO will also present the 'Report of the Food and Agriculture Organizaiton of the United Nations on recent development in agricultural and rural statistics'.
