29 January 2014, Rome - The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) has joined forces with FAO, in the context of the 2014 International Year of Family Farming (IYFF), to launch an awareness campaign targeted at farmers’ organizations and rural populations. AMARC brings together a network of more than 4,000 community radios, federations and community media stakeholders in more than 150 countries. It advocates for the right to communicate at the international, national, local and neighbourhood levels, as well as defends and promotes the interests of the community radio movement through solidarity, networking and cooperation. They believe in the power of radio. FAO also recognizes that community radio has a key role to play in development. In many communities around the world, radio is the primary source of information and gives listeners a sense of what issues are being prioritized by media and governments.
