39th Session of the Committee on World Food Security Highlighting the role
Rome, 17 October 2012- The Coordination Committee of the Civil Society Mechanism met with FAO Director-General, to discuss a number of important issues such as Principles for Responsible Agricultural Investment, support to the urban poor and indigenous peoples, implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Land Tenure and suggested ways to enhance FAO's cooperation with civil society at the local and national levels, and to point out the full participation of Civil Society in the work of CFS and the common goal of ending hunger.

At a time when 870 million people still suffer from chronic undernourishment, Civil Society play a crucial role in the challenge to building enough resources to ensure food security and reduce poverty worldwide.
