Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition

14 October 2013, Rome-- Once a year, on the 16th of October, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations celebrates World Food Day, the day on which the Organization was founded in 1945. This day is meant to focus our attention on the efforts taking place worldwide towards eradicating hunger. It is a day meant for raising awareness of the many hunger and nutrition issues that affect every person on the planet. It is a day that reminds us that we are united in our efforts. This year, the focus for World Food Day is “Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition”. This theme aims to highlight the importance of food systems that can feed all people in a sustainable manner.

Alexandre Meybeck is a Senior Policy Officer at FAO. In the following interview he elaborates on this year's theme, the key issues and how they are all connected.
