Expected sharp fall in Southern African maize production raises food security concerns
28 April 2015, Rome-- The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization warned today that the maize harvest in Southern Africa is expected to shrink this year by approximately 26 per cent compared to 2014’s bumper crop. This would be a situation that could trigger food price increases and adversely impact recent food security gains.
Jonathan Pound is an economist with FAO in Rome. In the following interview he elaborates on the findings of this latest report. (Interview conducted by Sandra Ferrari)
