A partnership effort to strengthen agricultural statistics
Rome, 3-5 December 2012 - The weakness in data and information systems related to food and agriculture in many countries is considered a key constraint for designing short term interventions and longer term policies at country and global levels. To address this problem, a Global Strategy for Improving Agricultural and Rural Statistics has been developed by the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and endorsed in February 2010 by the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC).
World partners – regional Banks, ECA, DFID, Gates Foundations, countries, etc. - gathered in Rome, this week, discuss the implementation of the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics and how it responds to increasing demand from policy makers and the donor community for information to deal with sky-rocketing food prices and emerging issues relating to the use of biofuels, the environment, climate change, and monitoring the MDGs.
