Benefits and risks of solar-powered irrigation systems
Solar-powered irrigation systems improves the access to water of many farmers and can have knock-on effects on agricultural productivity and incomes. The opportunity cheaper solar offers also increases the urgency of making sure appropriate water management and governance systems are in place. FAO presented a global overview of the benefits and risks of solar-powered irrigation at an international forum held at its headquarters this week (12-13 April) on how such technologies can boost prospects for small-scale agriculture.
