Combating IUU fishing to ensure food security and protect the environment

Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing undermines the sustainable management of fisheries and marine resources, as well as the food security of small-scale fishers in developing countries. The need to combat it has led to a number of international initiatives, among which FAO's Port State Measures Agreement, through which 55 countries have undertaken to stop fishing vessels that have engaged in IUU fishing, from entering their ports.
