Despite FAO's accomplishments over the last 50 years, there are still some 800 million people, many of them women and children, who go to bed hungry. In the continued fight against hunger, FAO has initiated two new priority programmes: the Special Programme for Food Security, and EMPRES, an Emergency Prevention System.
