The discovery of chemical pesticides 60 years ago was hailed as the miracle that would turn modern farming around. In the developed world great profits would be made, and for the less developed continents hunger would become a thing of the past, as mass production of food became a reality. However, the miracle had a limited life-span, and would have far-reaching and devastating consequences.
