27 May 2015, Baku - FAO will soon establish a partnership and liaison office in the capital city of Azerbaijan, to help manage a new partnership aimed at boosting the agricultural and rural sector of Azerbaijan and neighboring countries.

Two agreements - formalizing the partnership, and establishing the new office - were signed here recently by Azerbaijan Minister of Agriculture Heydar Asadov and FAO Director-General Jose' Graziano da Silva.

"Today's agreement marks a milestone in the collaboration between Azerbaijan and FAO," Graziano said during the signing ceremony. "This partnership will strengthen our ongoing work and open new opportunities to work together in pursuit of our common goals."

The partnership, which begins with a five-year portfolio of US$ 10 million, will focus on priority activities at national level as set forth in the FAO Country Programming Framework for Azerbaijan. It can also support South-South Cooperation activities, especially in support of countries in the region.

While in Baku, Graziano was honored with the conferment of a ‘Doctor Honoris Causa' degree from Baku State University.
