High-Level Landscape Dialogue: “Policy and Services to Support Landscape and Seascape Partnerships: How can we meet the Sustainable Development Goals through Integrated Territorial Action?”

National governments and international organizations have launched major policy initiatives and strategies to address the world’s many crises: food and water insecurity, climate change, land degradation, biodiversity loss, the COVID-19 public health emergency and poverty that is being made worse by the global pandemic. But policymakers and practitioners may find it challenging to translate these initiatives and strategies into practical action on the ground. Often sectoral programs and policies conflict with one another or operate in silos, and support for more coherent place-based development is often weak.

Landscape and seascape partnerships are very well positioned to positively impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) because of their scale of action and knowledge of local conditions. But for them to work most effectively, these landscape and territorial partnerships require much stronger institutional support.

Join our next FAO North America-EcoAgriculture Partners high-level panel discussion about the necessary national and international policies and services that will effectively support partnerships. We will hear from government policymakers, program design experts and landscape practitioners about the types of aid needed and the key ingredients for external support to succeed. We will also explore how to build policy support that positions territorial action as a critical strategy to attain the SDGs.

The Landscape Dialogue is part of an ongoing series of discussions focusing on climate change, agriculture and landscapes. EcoAgriculture Partners and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Liaison Office for North America have jointly organized the series since 2009.
