The Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) is the first-ever direct measure of women’s empowerment and inclusion in the agriculture sector and was launched in 2012 at the 56th UN Commission on the Status of Women. Over 230 organizations have used a WEAI-based metric across 58 countries to track progress toward women’s empowerment and gender equality in the agriculture sector. Ten years later, diverse partners, including governments that have taken the lead in capturing data on women’s empowerment using WEAI-based metrics, will reflect on the impact of the WEAI for measuring and tracking gender equity and equality.
