Global Launch and Regional Presentations of the Status of Women in Agrifood Systems Report

07/04/2023

Join the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for the high-level global launch and regional presentations of the seminal report on the critical roles women play in global agrifood systems.

The FAO Report on the Status of Women in Agrifood Systems— the first of its kind since 2010-11— provides the latest data, lessons learned, and recommendations for policy and decision-makers about gender in agrifood systems.

Agrifood systems are a major employer of women globally and constitute a more important source of livelihood for women than for men in many countries. The study examines the challenges and opportunities that women face in the economic and social processes of agrifood systems and evaluates progress made in closing gender gaps. Empowering women and closing the gender gap in agrifood systems will lead to systematic benefits not just for women, but for society as a whole - reducing hunger, increasing incomes, and strengthening the resilience of rural communities
