Planet Forward Students Attend the CFS

15-17 October 2018, Rome – The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) kicked off its 45th session in Rome, Italy from Oct 15 - 19. Through a partnership between FAO North America and the George Washington University (GW) Planet Forward Initiative, four students from Universities across the US had the opportunity to participate in CFS 45 and the official World Food Day ceremony in Rome as observers.

Joining CFS 45 were Arianna Dunham, a senior at George Washington University; Terrius Harris, a senior at University of Mississippi and a Planet Forward Senior Correspondent; Harleen Marwah, an M.D. candidate at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences; and Sierra Williamson, a senior at University of Minnesota Twin Cities and a Global Food Challenge Emerging Leader.

A project of the GW Center for Innovative Media, Planet Forward focuses teaching and rewarding environmental storytelling by college students. Students took videos, pictures, and conducted interviews at the conference and will share stories from their experience in the coming weeks.

The Committee on World Food Security is the foremost inclusive international and intergovernmental platform that develops and endorses policy recommendations and guidance on a wide range of food security and nutrition topics. CFS 45 featured discussions on the policy convergence of food security and nutrition in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
