Third GEF Assembly, Cape Town, South Africa, 29-30 August 2006

During the Third Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in Cape Town, ministers and high-level officials from GEF member States reviewed the policies and operations of the GEF and progress over the four years since the previous assembly. Over 1,200 participants attended, representing governments, UN agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academia and the private sector.

UNFCCC African Regional Workshop on Adaptation,Accra, Ghana, 21-23 September 2006

The workshop aimed at facilitating exchange of information and integrated assessments in order to assist in identifying Africa’s needs and concerns related to adaptation. Some 60 participants, including representatives of 33 African Parties, 10 Annex I Parties and a number of international, intergovernmental and NGOs participated in the workshop.

United Nations Climate Change Conference,Nairobi, Kenya, 6 - 17 November 2006

The conference will also include, from 6 to 14 November 2006, the twenty-fifth sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 25) and of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 25), and the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG 2).

EESD 2006, "International Conference on Ecosystems, Environment and Sustainable Development”, Cairo, Egypt, 8 - 10 December 2006

UNCCD/WMO International Workshop on Climate and Land Degradation (Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, 11 to 15 December 2006)

River Basin Management 2007: Fourth International Conference on River Basin Management Including all aspects of Hydrology, Ecology, Environmental Management, Flood Plains and Wetlands, Kos, Greece, 23 - 25 May 2007

The conference aimed to communicate recent advances in the overall management of riverine systems, including advances in hydraulic and hydrologic modelling, environmental protection and flood forecasting. This conference particularly aimed at bringing together practising engineers, environmental managers and academics in the field, with an interest in discussing the conference topics. In particular, case studies are encouraged where delegates can share their problems and solutions with a wider international community.

Fourth GEF Assembly, Punta del Este, Uruguay, 24-28 May 2010

The Assembly, held once every three to four years, is a strategic opportunity for GEF stakeholders to meet, take stock, and collectively strengthen strategies and actions for protecting the global environment and achieving sustainable development. The Assembly combine plenary meetings and high-level panels, exhibits, side events and GEF project site visits. Prominent environmentalists, parliamentarians, business leaders, scientists, and civil society organizations (CSO’s) and community leaders discussed global environmental challenges within the context of sustainable development and other international development goals. The Government of Uruguay hosted the Fourth GEF Assembly, which took place for the first time in Latin America.
