CAADP Nutrition West Africa
The first CAADP Nutrition Capacity Development workshop was held in Dakar, Senegal, from November 9th-12th, 2011, to assist West African countries in developing action plans and programs for integrating nutrition objectives within their respective National Agriculture and Food Security Investment Plans (NAFSIP). The workshop brought together 180 participants from 17 West African Countries, composed of professionals and decision-makers from agriculture, health, finance, private sector, and civil society, as well as development partners working at regional and global levels.
The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to increase their understanding of agriculture’s role in improving nutrition, intensify dialogue and mutual understanding of each sectors’ role in improving nutrition, and to agree on practical steps for nutrition actions on the ground. The workshop increased country-level momentum and heightened the profile of agriculture as a key partner in nutrition.
The follow-up of this workshop showed that one of the main achievements of the workshop is the integration of nutrition dimension in the National Agricultural Investment Plans. Majority of countries were or are currently in process of revision of their National Agricultural Policy and included the results of the Action Plan integrating the nutrition dimension in the revision process.
Countries covered during West Africa Workshop : Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Togo.
