OCOP: Turmeric

Turmeric has recently regarded as an important export crop for Fiji raking in around $30m annually and is ranked 3rd major agricultural export earner. There is scope for further development of this crop for both domestic and export markets. Currently most of the crop is harvested from the wild therefore more sustainable farming practices need to be developed. Turmeric is well adopted to Fijian climate and already has an established market. The value chain is well established; however, some work is required to ensure the sustainability of certain components of this value chain.
