OCOP: Raspberry

Year of establishment: 2023

As one of the potential project countries for implementation of the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) Initiative, Serbia will promote Raspberry as the Special Agricultural Product.

OCOP National Focal Points from the FAO Country Office in Serbia and the Group of Production and Trade of Fruit and Vegetables and Sprits, Sector for Agrarian Policy as well as the Forestry and Water Management from the Ministry of Agriculture presented the OCOP implementation progress in the FAO Regional Launch Event and Workshop on the Implementation of the OCOP Country Projects in Europe and Central Asia held from 3 to 4 May 2023 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Since 2019, the Government of the Republic of Serbia has formed a working group for the improvement of the raspberry sector. This working group's purpose is to overcome the current problems in the raspberry industry, which are mainly related to the placement and sale of raspberries and purchase prices, but no strategic document has been prepared for the long term.

Moreover, there is yet to be a national program just for raspberry.

There is a National Program for Agriculture, Rural Development and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Republic of Serbia for the period 2014 - 2024, in which raspberry, in addition to apple, cherry and plum, are analyzed in more detail. These four fruit species have the highest production and export value, and that is why they are discussed in more detail.
