As one of the project countries for implementation of the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) Initiative, Türkiye promotes fig as the Special Agricultural Product. 

OCOP National Focal Points from the FAO Country Office and the Ministry of Agriculture of Türkiye presented the OCOP implementation progress in the FAO Regional Launch Event and Workshop on the Implementation of the OCOP Country Projects in Europe and Central Asia held from 3 to 4 May 2023 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. 

Türkiye’s OCOP national launch event was held at the Fig Research Institute in Aydın, Türkiye on 7-8 December 2023, to promote the fig sector. Hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the FAO Country Office, the event attracted diverse stakeholders from government, academia, the private sector, farmers, and traders to collaborate on strengthening the sector. 

In addition, the OCOP National Focal Points in Algeria attended the national launch event in Türkiye to exchange experiences in fig value chain development and OCOP implementation. This collaboration will be strengthened through an upcoming OCOP project funded by the FAO Flexible Voluntary Contribution (FVC) mechanism to develop capacities and knowledge exchange with Türkiye through establishing South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) networks.
